Maker Overview
Life
English bow maker of London. Active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, producing violin, viola and cello bows in the English tradition. His bows, stamped “John H. Maw London”, include silver- and gold-mounted examples with carefully executed workmanship and well-modelled pernambuco sticks. Although little is known of his life and training, his surviving bows represent the skilled output of the London bow-making school of the period.
