John Dilworth
MOENNIG, William Hermann (II) Born 1905, died 1982 Philadelphia,Pennsylvania USA. Son and pupil of William Heinrich Moennig, above. Studied violin making with Paul Dörfel and bow making with Paul Heberlein in Markneukirchen; subsequently attended the Mittenwald School of Violin Making. First American to achieve his Master’s certificate in 1936. Returned to the family business in Philadelphia, but ceased new making 1956 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee 1983, teaching violin making and repair at the Blair School of Music. About 30 violins, 30 violas, and 2 cellos, all copied from classical Italian work. Succeeded by his son William (III), below. William H. Moennig, Jr. / Philadelphia-Pennsylvania / U.S.A. 19..
