The ‘La Pucelle’ Stradivari monograph is now online
When I worked for Peter Biddulph, John Dilworth would walk me through the instruments in the strongroom. What made a Pressenda a Pressenda, the identifying quirks of each maker. They were some of my happiest times. The reason I mention this is because that is the same feeling I get when I read the monographs we published together ten years ago.
Each monograph was about a single great instrument. And now, the first, on the 1709 ‘La Pucelle’ Stradivari, is now online in full – John Dilworth’s text with twenty-five photographs from Tucker Densley and measurements.
It is the best-preserved Stradivari outside a museum. Vuillaume named it, the Hills sold it twice, Huguette Clark kept it out of sight for forty-five years and, as far as I am aware, David Fulton has it now.
