Biographies

John Dilworth

DARTE, Auguste Born 1830, Paris, died 1892 Mirecourt France. Worked in Mirecourt from 1865. Pupil, son-in-law, and successor of N. F. Vuillaume. Also worked for several years for J. B. Vuillaume. Stradivari model. Scroll slightly lacking in refinement. Golden-yellow spirit varnish. After 1925 the ‘Darte’ name was used by the Deblaye and Meunier company in Mirecourt and appears as a brand on their commercially produced instruments. Original instruments branded and bear a printed label: Fabrique de / A. Darte / à Mirecourt
