DEROUX, Georges Born 1822 Mirecourt, died 1889 Rheims France. Pupil of Honoré Derazey. Known as ‘Deroux père’. Established his own business in Mirecourt in 1846, which became a training ground for many luthiers, including the members of the Hill family who were to establish the leading European firm of expertise and restoration in London from 1882. Left Mirecourt in 1880 to work with Mennesson in Rheims. Fine work generally on a Stradivarian model. Usually branded and signed on the interior: ‘Fait par Deroux Luthier à Mirecourt 1855’
