Biographies
John Dilworth
DICKSON, John Worked circa. 1772-1781 London UK. Fine small viola signed on the interior; address given as Drury Lane. One example is reminiscent of the early Hill workshops, with flat arch and pale golden yellow varnish. Another shows professional work in the Dodd style with fine red-brown oil varnish. The latter is a very small viola with 37.5cm (143/4”) back length, and compensating deep ribs and full arch, the soundholes rather oversized.
