JAURA, Wilhelm Thomas Theodor Born 1863, died 1922 Vienna Austria. Eldest son of Wilhelm Josef Jaura; a guitar maker. Worked for W. T. Gutermann for 21 years. Established independently from 1898. Luthier to the Viennese court and respected member of the Violin Makers’ Guild. Recognized as the leading expert connoisseur in Vienna. Awarded various decorations and medals. Sohn von Wilh. Jos. J. Schüler von Theodor Gutermann. Nachdem er
22 Jahre bei seinem Lehrmeister thätig war, machte er sich im Jahre 1898
selbstständig und macht hauptsächlich Violoncelli nach Ruggeri, Maggini und
Andr. Guarneri, und zwar nur nach Originalen, die in Wien vorhanden sind.
Da er sehr altes, gutes Tonholz und einen schönen Öllack verwendet, sehr
sauber arbeitet, sind seine Geigen und Violoncelli auch sehr gut im Ton und werden
von Musikern sehr geschätzt. Er ist auch ein tüchtiger Reparateur und genauer Kenner der Wiener Schule.
