LORENZINI, Gaspare Worked circa. 1743-1816 Piacenza Italy. Probably a pupil of J. B. Guadagnini; the Guadagnini and Lorenzini families were certainly acquainted. Early work has a slightly coarse poor materials and thin golden ground, but good Italian quality. Later work is more finely finished with low but full arching and details finely attended to. Red-orange varnish; slightly thin and brittle but very fine. Purfling often quite broad. Excellent small violas. Sometimes branded within a heart shape on the table beneath the fingerboard: ‘G.L.P.’ Gaspare Lorenzini / Fecit Placentiæ 1743 Gaspare Lorenzini / Allievo de Guadagnini / fecit Piacenza.1804
