    Fine Mirecourt bow maker. Pecatte school, with strong heads, sticks of rounded triangular section, and frogs with open throat. Established under his own name from c.1840. Millant suggests that the letters ‘FR’ in his brand refer to his wife, M. Frébinet. — John Dilworth

    SIMON, Nicolas (SIMON FR) Born 1806, died 1864 Mirecourt France. Fine Mirecourt bow maker. Pecatte school, with strong heads, sticks of rounded triangular section, and frogs with open throat. Established under his own name from c.1840. Millant suggests that the letters ‘FR’ in his brand refer to his wife, M. Frébinet. Bows continued to appear under this name for ten years after Simon’s death, presumably due to his wife’s previous close involvement with the business, which enabled her to maintain the shop up until her own death in 1874.
