Biographies

John Dilworth

BIGNAMI, Otello Born 1914, died 1989 Bologna Italy. Studied the violin at the Bologna Philharmonic Academy. Began as a self-taught maker in 1947, before becoming the pupil of G. Pollastri. Exhibited at Cremona 1949, first prize at Rome 1956, and special ‘Violino d’oro’ award in Bagnacavallo 1976 in recognition of his work as a maker and teacher. Director of the Bologna School of Violin Making. Holds a very fine reputation for his beautifully made instruments on a largely personal model derived from classical designs. Beautifully applied golden-amber varnish. Bignami Otello Bologna
