John Dilworth

DARCHE, Charles Claude François Born 1821 Mirecourt France, died 1874 Brussels Belgium. Pupil of N. F. Vuillaume in Brussels. Established his own shop there in 1845. Stradivari model, high quality work, but often blamed for deleterious wood treatments used to age the materials artificially. Thin hard varnish of poor quality. Entered a quartet at Munich Exhibition 1854. Highly regarded restorer who worked extensively on the Andrea Amati cello from the ‘Charles IX’ set. Fait par C. F.
