John Dilworth
DEFAT, Georges Born 1900 Brussels Belgium. Son and pupil of Émile Laurent. Apprenticed to P. Mangenot in Mirecourt; then worked in Paris from 1920, initially for Maucotel, before establishing his own business on rue Biot in 1926. Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models with red-brown shaded oil varnish. Accurate, professional workmanship. Branded: ‘G. Defat à Paris’. Printed label: Georges Defat / Luthier / à Paris. No.10.
