JEFFREY, John Born 1841, died 1918, Worked Chirnside, Berwickshire UK. Amateur maker of about 50 instruments on various classical Italian models, generally using Canadian pine for the fronts. And local sycamore for the backs. Initially used a brittle brown spirit, but later adopted the commercially produced oil varnish by George Fry of Berwick. John Jeffrey / Chirnside / 1890
