John Dilworth
MACINTOSH, John Worked up to 1839 Dublin Republic of Ireland, died 1850 Dovecotland, Perthshire, Scotland UK. Pupil and successor of Thomas Perry in Dublin. Took over the business of Perry and Wilkinson, returning to Scotland c.1839. Published an essay on violin construction in 1837. Similar work to Perry: painted purfling, short stop length, and pale orange spirit varnish. Later produced more classical work. Usually used fine materials. Branded: ‘Mackintosh’
