MOZZANI, Luigi Born 1869 Faenza, died 1943 Bologna Italy. Noted guitar virtuoso. Established a workshop in Cento for guitar making 1910 and began making violins there also from 1917. Followed a Guadagnini model for violins, violas, and cellos with dark red varnish. None of very great quality or integrity. Guitars and particularly the popular lyre-guitars of the period show greater workmanship. Moved to Bologna 1927. Several of his instruments are maintained at the Pieve di Centro School of Lutherie. Liuteria Italiana / Luigi Mozzani / Cento Anno 1920
