BRANDL (BRANDT), Carl Born 1821, died 1864 Budapest Hungary. Pupil of Tischenant and Hoffmann from 1835. Subsequently worked for Gutermann and A. Hofmann in Vienna. Established in Budapest from about 1855, address in Hatvani Street, later Granatos Street. Fine workmanship using various classical models, a reduced Stradivari pattern and an enlarged Guarneri model; also Amati and double-purfled Maggini copies. Excessively large scroll, but well-carved.
